Steve - Telling a Story
Posted on August 23rd, 2007 by steveiebadmin
Knowing which story to tell is half the challenge, how to tell it is the other...
“When you are describing,
A shape, or sound, or tint;
Don't state the matter plainly,
But put it in a hint;
And learn to look at all things,
With a sort of mental squint.”
Charles Lutwidge Dodgson (Lewis Carroll)
It can be daunting for an MBA graduate to look at their organisation with a 'sort of mental squint', when they have been trained to focus, think analytically and put conclusions as bullet points and pictures into powerpoint presentations. Stories require a leap of faith; deep emotion and longing (passion!), and the courage to say out loud what you really want.
